Patterns worth evaluating
- Frequent or increasingly expensive repairs
- Persistent comfort or humidity problems despite appropriate maintenance and repairs
- Unavailable major parts or compatibility complications
- A failed major component combined with other poor-condition findings
- A planned renovation that substantially changes the home's heating and cooling load
What is not proof by itself
Age, one high bill, one repair, or a sales rule of thumb does not by itself prove replacement is necessary. Weather, rates, thermostat behavior, ducts, envelope changes, and equipment faults all affect results.
Ask for evidence
Request the diagnosis, repair option when practical, load calculation for replacement, matched equipment details, complete scope, and warranty terms. Consider a second opinion for an expensive or unclear recommendation.
